upgrade 10.1.2.x to Oracle Internet Directory Patch Configuration Assistant fails

When I upgraded the infra 10.1.2.x to I got an failed on Oracle Internet Directory Patch Configuration Assistant. I found out that in the $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/log/patchca.log there was an error:

Wed Mar 10 09:51:41 CET 2010OID PatchCA started..
Check if OID is configured.
oracle.sysman.assistants.util.NetAPIException: TNS-04404: no error
caused by: TNS-04414: File error
caused by: TNS-04612: Null RHS for "oaiinfra"
at oracle.sysman.assistants.util.NetworkUtils.getNetServiceNameValue(
at oracle.ldap.oidinstall.OIDPatchCA.main(

After some investigation I found out that the tnsnames.ora was not correct. We changed this an now everything is working.

Did this post help you in any way can you please leave a comment? This will motivate me writing more posts.

  1. Arjan,

What are your plans for future upgrades. Are you going to 10.1.3 or are you considering the newer Oracle Weblogic Application Server. We have a combination of 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 and are considering our options.

Please feel free to send me a note with your thoughts or

    Thanks Much,

    Kevin Mullins,,

  2. Hi Kevin,

The customer I am currently working for does not want to invest in the Oracle Weblogic licenses. So maybe we will upgrade the to version and maybe patch the to 10.1.4.x but that's it. The architects are looking for another platform, maybe it will be tomcat or Jboss.

    Kind regards,

    Arjan Goos

  3. We are also considering JBOSS along with Oracle Weblogic Application server but have we not started the evaluation.

    Thanks for the rely ...
